Data is the new Oil; and we are seeing a global demand for Data Driven Engineering. In order to align with this growing trend, the Data Engineering Research Group was formed. We intend to bring together a multidisciplinary research team covering a wide spectrum of domains to handle challenging real-life problems. The primary mission of this research group is – ‘to make SENSE out of Data’ for the benefit of mankind. VIT Chennai is strategically located close to several Industrial and IT Zones. Micro and Nano Devices Laboratory

The laboratory has been planned by keeping both the teaching and research requirements of SENSE. With the existing of Curriculum for Applied Learning (CAL) theme, the Micro and Nano Devices Laboratory caters to courses in the UG as well as PG curriculum including Final Year Project. UG and PG students are doing their RBL and Final year projects in different domains of expertise of the faculty of the Micro and Nano Devices Group.
The laboratory has been planned for MEMS design (using commercially available CAD tools such as Intellisuite), Nanoelectronic Device Simulations using TCAD Sentaurus tools and Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Nanomaterials towards Micro and Nano Devices fabrication activities.

About the Optics Research Lab:

The Optics Research Laboratory was established in 2013 with a vision to explore the areas of optical imaging, sensing, signal and information processing and to develop technologies, based on their applications. In this lab, there are ongoing research projects funded by government research agencies. Our program provides an exciting training opportunity for students in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies and postdocs who wish to explore the areas of optical imaging, optical sensing, optical experiments and signal processing

Project Achievements:

•      We have developed a digital holographic microscopic technique in transmission geometry. This technique could provide accurate quantitative measurements of the surface profile of micro-optical components. The technique enables the characterization of micro optical components like ‘micro lens array’ with very high accuracy.

 

Advanced Battery and Super-capacitor Engineering Research Lab

This laboratory has been planned for research activity related to the fabrication and characterization of batteries and supercapacitors. The laboratory is equipped with facilities for synthesizing nanomaterials, designing, and fabricating the battery cells. The facilities also include the charging/ discharging cycle life study of the fabricated battery or readily available battery and the I-V characteristic study of a two-terminal Nanoelectronic resistive memory device.
