Accepted Papers will be published in the conference proceeding as well as reputed SCOPUS indexed journals (as mentioned in Special Issues). Theme

The Symposium aims on discussing the issues and challenges in maintaining the Big Data and Cloud Computing, which is now being a major threat to our Technical Environments. It discusses on the emerging problems such as the data which is growing at a speed greater than the computational speed and also challenges in storing such Big Data safely. With the explosive growth of data, increasingly complex storage infrastructures, and shrinking IT budgets, storage management is a major issue today for the IT community. This symposium also aims to impart knowledge to the participants on various storage technologies, the complexities of managing large volumes of data. Big Data need both high throughout computing and huge data storage. This seminar will be an eye opener to the participants on the various available storage techniques and the necessary infrastructure and medium needed to implement the techniques. An overview of Big Data will also be exemplified.

The Symposium also aims on discussing the Challenges on Virtualization in Cloud Computing. It focuses on the development of cloud computing applications with hands on experience including virtualization. The scope of “Virtualization technologies” includes techniques and concepts to enable virtual machines, virtual networks, virtual storage and virtual applications. As per Gartner’s definition “Virtualization will transform how IT is managed, what is bought, how it is deployed, how companies plan and how they are charged. As a result, virtualization is creating a new wave of competition among infrastructure vendors that will result in considerable market disruption and consolidation over the next few years.” , we will be able to focus the possible solutions for the Cloud computing and Big data challenges with the help of this Symposium.

The symposium will also be a platform to create awareness to the students, faculties and Industrial community and to the society regarding the usage of Big Data and cloud computing

Title:
Reliability-aware Resource Provisioning Approach for Cloud Computing

Abstract
Resource provisioning is an important and challenging problem that must be addressed in large-scale distributed systems such as Cloud computing environments. However, resources failures in Cloud computing systems can and do arise. Thus, a failure-aware resource provisioning algorithm that is capable of attending to the end-users quality of service (QoS) requirements is paramount. This talk will address the problem of Hybrid Cloud computing resource provisioning in the presence of independent and correlated failures. A scalable hybrid Cloud infrastructures as well as resource provisioning policies to assure QoS targets of the users are discussed. The proposed policies take into account the workload model and the failure correlations to redirect users’ requests to the appropriate Cloud providers. Using real failure traces and a workload model, we evaluate the proposed resource provisioning policies to demonstrate their performance, cost as well as performance–cost efficiency.

He is also serving as the founding CEO of Manjrasoft Pty Ltd., a spin-off company of the University, commercialising its innovations in Grid and Cloud Computing. He has authored/co-authored over 400 papers and technical documents that include four books—Microprocessor x86 Programming, Mastering C++, and Design of PARAS Microkernel. He received B.E, M.E, and Ph.D. degrees from Mysore, Bangalore, and Monash Universities respectively. He was awarded Dharma Ratnakara Memorial Trust Gold Medal for academic excellence in Mysore University. He received Vice Chancellor's inaugural "Knowledge Transfer Excellence (Commendation) Award" from the University of Melbourne in Nov 2007. He co-founded the IEEE Technical Committee on Scalable Computing (TCSC).

Market-Oriented Cloud Computing and Big Data Applications

Abstract:
Computing is being transformed to a model consisting of services that are commoditised and delivered in a manner similar to utilities such as water, electricity, gas, and telephony. In such a model, users access services based on their requirements without regard to where the services are hosted. Several computing paradigms have promised to deliver this utility computing vision. Cloud computing has emerged as one of the buzzwords in the IT industry and turned the vision of "computing utilities" into a reality. Several IT vendors have started offering computation, storage, and application hosting services, and provide coverage in several continents, supporting Service-Level Agreements (SLA) backed performance and uptime promises for their services. Clouds deliver infrastructure, platform, and software (application) as services, which are made available as subscription-based services in a pay-as-you-go model to consumers. The price that Cloud Service Providers charge can vary with time and the quality of service (QoS) expectations of consumers.

This keynote presentation will cover (a) 21st century vision of computing and identifies various IT paradigms promising to deliver the vision of computing utilities; (b) opportunities and challenges for utility and market-oriented Cloud computing, (c) innovative architecture for creating market-oriented and elastic Clouds by harnessing virtualisation technologies; (d) Aneka, a Cloud Application Platform, for rapid development of Cloud/Big Data applications and their deployment on private/public Clouds with resource provisioning driven by SLAs; (e) experimental results on deploying Cloud and Big Data applications in engineering, gaming, and health care domains (integrating sensors networks, mobile devices), ISRO satellite image processing on elastic Clouds, and (f) directions for delivering our 21st century vision along with pathways for future research

Mr. Chidambaran Kollengode (Chid), a Systems Professional has recently joined Nokia. He was earlier with Yahoo India R & D as Director Cloud Computing. He has been involved in exploring the boundaries of distributed computing for very large volume data processing. Prior to joining Yahoo, he worked with Amazon in building a highly scalable distributed architecture and a cost-effective implementation for processing huge amounts of search and advertisement (Internet) data. Emerging Trends in Cloud Computing and Big Data

Abstract
This talk looks at the processing requirements of Big Data and challenges in using Map-Reduce paradigm. It looks at some of the bench mark big data analytics problems using Map-Reduce on HDFS. We motivate the use of new paradigm called Generate Map Reduce (GMR) for doing big data analytics in the cloud. GMR supports shared data structure abstraction across map jobs and supports iterative and recursive map-reduce jobs. GMR performs quite well for Big Data Analytics on the cloud and the talk presents the results of using GMR for Big Data Analytics on the cloud.

Free Local Content with the Mobile Cloud

Abstract:
The web in general and the mobile web in particular suffers from a lack of localised content. Game theory is much needed for cloud computing!

Abstract:
"Client-server networking with clouds" is a distributed application architecture that partitions tasks or work loads between service providers (servers) and service requesters (clients), where the network communication through clouds is not necessarily secure. A number of researchers and organizations have produced innovative methods to ensure a secure communication in this set up. But none of them focussed on communication negotiation, behaviors, privacy and strategy among clouds. We are much interested to use Game theory for achieving the benefits of cloud computing.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions must include abstract, keywords, the e-mail address of the corresponding author and should not exceed 8 pages for full conference papers, 6 pages for short / work in progress papers, and 2 pages for posters, including all tables and figures in the IEEE CS format. The template files for LATEX or WORD can be downloaded from the following web link . all paper submissions must represent original and unpublished work. each submission will be peer reviewed by at least three program committee members. submission of a paper should be regarded as an under taking that, should the paper be accepted, at least one of the authors will register for the conference and present the work. submit your paper(s) as a pdf at the submission site

Call for Posters

Poster size can be of your choice but should not exceed 3 ft (91 cm) in width and 4 ft (1.21) cm in height. The posters will be displayed during the whole event and ample time will be allocated to poster discussions. Poster boards and material (tape etc.) for mounting the posters will be provided at the venue. All posters should be removed at the end of the event on March 28th 2014.

Suggestions for effective posters:
  • Letters and numbers should be large enough to be readable from 1.5 m. For example, font size recommendations for Arial font: Title = 72 pt; Author and affiliation = 48 pt; Text = 36 pt. Use simple typeface and use bold type for headings.
  • Use bullets, and keep text to a minimum. Don’t crowd information onto the poster.
  • Keep figures and tables simple.
  • Use a simple background and colour scheme that does not detract from the information being presented.
  • Excessive use of organization logos or advertisements is discouraged.
  • If possible, provide miniaturized copies of the poster (e.g., 22 cm x 28 cm; 8.5” x 11”) and your business card.
  • Provide an envelope where people can leave their business card for requesting additional information.
  • Include a recent photo of yourself in the upper right-hand corner so that people can find you for discussion later.

Publication

Accepted and presented papers will be included in the Conference Proceedings. Authors of accepted papers, or at least one of them, are requested to register and present their work at the conference, otherwise their papers will not be included in the proceedings

Cloud Computing has created oppurtunities for both new applications and new way of doing business. The challenge now is how to handle Big Data, the waves of information generated and stored in the cloud. Big Data Innovation Programming contest will be launched in Mid February 2014

We invite proposals for the Programming contest to be held as a part of the first International Symposium on Big data and Cloud Computing Challenges (ISBCC-2014) which is beig held at VIT University, Chennai Campus, India on March 27-28th, 2014. The programming contest is designed in such a way that it attracts innovative minds which showcases the potentials of Big Data and Cloud Computing from students. Fascinating prizes await the first three winners and all successive submissions get poster time during the entire seminar

Competitiion Eligibility
  • Any University Student, from any country is eligible to join as long as you provide proof of your student status
  • The team can consist of no less than two members and no more that four members.
  • All members must be university students
  • Any number of teams may compete from any university

Proposals for the competition should include

  • Description of the problem addressed, with the relevant background of the domain.
  • Competition tasks - we encourage both task-driven challenges as well as open-track which require users to develop some "interesting" insights.
  • Names, affiliations, contact details (including phone numbers) of the team
