Ford Apprentices Training – FAT

Ford India Private Limited in its endeavour to ‘Go Further’ comes to VIT Chennai ‘A Place to Learn; A Chance to Grow’ in search of a good training experience for their newly hired apprentices. Their Human Resources team met with the team of Faculty members and Heads at VIT Chennai and discussed possibilities. After a couple of rounds of discussions the faculty members from the  Languages Division, SAS along with SMBS and VITBS at VIT Chennai proposed to take up the offer and this birthed Ford Apprentices Training FAT at VIT Chennai.

FAT encompassed a 40 hours training, assessment and feedback session in a span of five days on eight topics. The Division of Social Sciences, DSSL, School of Advanced Sciences dealt with the soft skills. Team Building, Conflict Management, Communication and Presentation Skills were taught through videos, games and simulation activities. School of Mechanical and Building Sciences handled 3 major sessions on Hydraulics & Pneumatics, Jigs & Fixtures and Engineering Materials. All their theory sessions were augmented with practical trainings in the respective laboratories. VIT Business School handled 7QC and SPC. They taught the basics of statistical processing and the quality tools widely used in the industry. The participants also learnt to draw and interpret graphs with case studies and examples from their workplace contextualizing these sessions. Trainees were given a book with all the material shared in the sessions. Every week of training ended with an assessment and feedback session after which participants were given a certificate of completion. A formal valedictory function for the first batch was organised with the heads of VIT and FORD meeting and gracing the occasion. Mr.Pathy, General Manager, LMM, in his address spoke highly about the initiative and the support VIT rendered in conducting the training for their apprentices. He said that he could see phenomenal change in his recruits in the form of motivation to learn more and do more and also said that this would help them grow within the organization. He appreciated the trainers for sowing the seeds of interest in the trainees to communicate well in English, which is nevertheless the need of the hour in any workplace. We wish to place on record our sincere gratitude to the VIT management – our Chancellor, the Vice Presidents and our Leadership team for their constant support and encouragement throughout the programme.
