Dr.T.Thyagarajan obtained Ph.D. in Intelligent Control, from Anna University (QS-WU 427) Chennai and Post-Doctoral Research work in ‘Auto tuning’ at National Taiwan University (66th Rank in QS – World universities ranking), Taiwan. Underwent training in USA & UK under TEQIP & Erasmus plus. Authored/co-authored 4 Text books. Published over 110 research papers in journals/conference proceedings and guided 16 Ph.Ds. Secured R&D funding worth Rs.15 crores from various Government agencies. Played a significant role in developing 4 prototypes (Automatic External Defibrillator, Antibiogram Device (Technology Transfer), Multipurpose Robot and Advance process controller). He has one patent (granted) and one under FER review. Established 3 COEs: IOT, Robotics & Automation and Automotive Technology. Organized 4 National and 3 International conferences. He has over 39 years of Teaching, Research & Admin combined experience.
Served at Anna University as : HOD of Department of Instrumentation Engineering, MIT Campus for 5 and half years, Director-University Library (3 years), Director- Centre for University Industry Collaboration (6 years), Director- Internal Quality Assurance Cell (3 years), Dean- MIT Campus (3 years). Also served as University NAAC Coordinator (twice), University NBA Coordinator, Convener-NIRF for two consecutive years, Co-convener for AU-IOE, Co-coordinator, NHHID and Coordinator- Career Guidance Cell, Adviser AU-IQAC, Adviser Anna- Gem School. Served as Expert Member of UGC, AICTE, UPSC, TNPSC, TN-TRB, NAAC and several University level committees. He was the Founder Dean (Academic) at Crescent Engineering College. Secured 17 Awards including: Sisir Kumar National Award for publishing the best research paper, Tamil Nadu DTE Award for guiding the best UG project work, IEEE- Best Researcher Award, IEEE Life Time achievement Award and Professor of Eminence Award from MIT Alumni Association.
He made technical visits to USA, Europe, South Africa, and most of the Middle East and South East Asian countries. He delivers invited lectures on: auto-tuning, intelligent control, smart healthcare; outcome based pedagogy, soft-skill development and quality assurance. He was the youngest Chairman for IEEE Madras Section and Founder Chairman of IEEE Control System Society. He is a Senior member of IEEE, Life Member of IE(I), ISTE, SSI and QCFI. He is known for pragmatic policy making, thorough professionalism, and proactive leadership. He is also known for modesty, human-touch, supportive, caring and considerate with all his colleagues, scholars and students.
