Ministry of Science Poland Welcomes The Indian Rover Challenge Competition
The Four-day Indian Rover Challenge competition concluded at VIT Chennai on 20th January,2020.16 Teams from all over India and Poland and Bangladesh took part in the four-day event. A special terrain was created at the VIT Chennai campus to test the rovers. It was inaugurated on Friday, January 17 in the presence of Dr. Sekar Viswanathan, Vice President, VIT and Dr. Anand Samuel, Vice Chancellor, VIT.
It was a one of its kind event in Asia Pacific region aimed at encouraging the spirit of innovation among students who are interested in space exploration. The event challenged students to design and build next generation Mars Rover and compete in Mars simulated conditions.
Indian Rover Challenge is part of the Rover Challenge Series of the Mars Society, USA and is a student-driven event.The team of students from University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland, won the first prize and it included a cash prize of Rs. 50,000. Teams from University of Warsaw, Poland and SRM Chennai also won prizes. The hosts, VIT Chennai won the Emerging Team award. Mr. Senthil Kumar, Senior General Manager, Production, Hyundai, Chennai was the Chief Guest at the Valedictory function held on Monday evening. Dr. V.S.Kanchana Bhaaskaran, Pro Vice Chancellor, VIT Chennai was also present.
