Modelling and Investigation on deposition process of lubricant surface using Electrical Discharge Machining Process

The SERB-Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India Project amounting to Rs.20,62,500 Lakhs from 2017-2020 is an ongoing Venture initiated by Dr.Giridharan Abimannan, Assistant Professor (SG)– School of Mechanical and Building Sciences. Critical components such as gears are subjected to wear due to continuous rubbing mechanism. For many years it has been possible to deposit a wide range of hard wear – resistant coatings on critical components used in aerospace using various deposition techniques. However, these techniques were not successful in coating critical components due to its poor adhesion, high friction and do not provide any protection for the opposing surface. Electrical Discharge Machining can be used to deposit hard wear resistance coating by controlling the discharge energy available in gap.
