What are The Scopes of Mechanical Engineering in India

What is engineering? In simple terms, Engineering is the application of science and maths to solve problems. Engineers figure out how things work and find practical uses for scientific discovery. Scientists get the credit for innovations that advance the human conditions, but engineers are the ones who make the innovation possible by providing the artillery to them. Physicist Freeman Dyson wrote, “A good scientist is a person with original ideas. A good engineer is a person who makes a design that works with as few original ideas as possible. There are no prima donnas in engineering.”

There are numerous branches of engineering, and it depends on the area of interest of different individuals. The most well-known branches are mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, Computer Engineering civil engineering, electronics and telecommunication engineering, aviation engineering, and many more. Technically defined, mechanical engineering is the application of the principles and problem-solving techniques of engineering from design to manufacturing to the marketplace for any object. Mechanical engineers analyze their work using the principles of motion, energy, and force, ensuring that models function safely, efficiently, and reliably, all at a competitive cost.

What are The Scopes of Mechanical Engineering in India

Scopes of Mechanical Engineering in India

1. Aerospace industry

Aerospace is considered to be a broad scope of the study, and India has a larger market to tap into. It has excellent potential and is one of the developing industries of all time. There has been an influx of FDI( foreign direct investment). The civil aviation market has seen a more significant increase, and due to the constant supply of different aircraft, commercial and defense included. The government is trying to research and develop domestic products by attracting world-leading companies in aerospace. There have been new startups that have been paving their way into India like Team Indus, which is one of the famous Indian startups, which is renowned for developing the world’s first private moon mission. This is also the only company that attends Google’sGoogle’s x-prize mission.

2. Automotive industries

The automotive industry is booming in India. Mechanical engineers usually have a lot of scope in this field as it involves a lot of designing parts and machinery. Automobile Industry is a humongous sector and one of the essential products in every human’s life as without communication, no work is possible. The automobile industry keeps on changing drastically, every day as new technology arrives and therefore one who did mechanical engineering has to keep themselves updated with the current situation. The industry will soon see a decline in the automobiles run with fossil fuels. This doesn’t mean that the industry will die. It will now work smarter than before trying to find alternative and cleaner energy options to utilize to run automobiles. Gen-Z prefers more eco-friendly options, and this is an expectation from the future generations as well. The scope and future of this industry are as bright as the sun, and there will be immense opportunities.

3. Defense

Engineers, have a more significant advantage in defense as a lot of machinery is used by defense forces. The Indian army recruits engineers based on exams conducted to test their technical abilities in this field. Designing and building prototypes is a requirement in defense, and the mechanical engineers fulfill that. Mechanical engineers make airplanes that require sophisticated machinery. They are the backbone of this industry.

4. Rail industry

Different aspects of the rail industry are 1)motive power availability 2)Rolling stock management 3)traffic restoration in case of accidents 4) Production units like locomotives and coaches 5)repair and manufacturing 6)crew management. These are the aspects where a mechanical engineer can work. Mechanical engineers also head the locomotive business here which has a broader work range. Mechanical engineers lead workshops in the Rail industry.

5. Thermal plants

Power industries are considered to be the most significant contributor to the economic development and industrialization in India. There are new power generating stations that are being installed all across the country to meet the energy demands. This particular industry has significant importance in the present scenario and will continue to play an essential role in power development for the years to come. The industry is looking for engineers with thermodynamics as their niche. Those who would love to work and find more on this subject can opt or work in the thermal industry.

6. Steel plants

As per the 2016 reports, India stood as the third-largest steel producer. The demand for steel never goes down. It is mainly due to the availability of the raw material. The raw materials required to produce steel is available domestically in high numbers. It has been continuously growing as steel products are used in every other industry right from making rockets to mending tools. Due to its vast scope, mechanical engineers can opt for this industry. The job role varies depending on what the requirement is. It can be in production or the maintenance section of the manufacturing unit.

7. Robotics industry

Robotics is the current technological innovation in which many of the industries are investing a lot of time and resources. This industry needs mechanical engineers to work on various automation tasks. Engineers alone can find cost-effective and time-saving methods to get jobs done. The industry expects them to contribute in terms of logistics and assignments in automated assembly plants. Robotics make life simpler by cutting down a lot of manual work which is essential in many industries and thus there is no looking back when you take up action in this field. So for a mechanical engineer with a decent knowledge of electronics/ software has a lot of scope on getting acquainted with this fantastic technology.

Other than this, mechanical engineers also have a scope in the government sector. The range for mechanical engineers is not limited mainly that no we see the world moving to a much automated and advanced lifestyle. The challenge, however, lies in the level of skills that the industry is expecting of the engineers. To be on the top, they must keep themselves updated on the latest trends and advancements and do their best in contributing to what is called ”greater good”. With advancements in technology, industries now demand incredibly skilled and talented engineers. Another important thing that they expect is their engineers to be ”all prepped” for anything for they do not want to spend time and resources in basic training.

Practical knowledge will always triumph over theoretical knowledge. Mechanical engineers must also focus on the practical aspect of this course, keeping in mind the theory of this course.
